Rivera, Mendoza shine at Asia Pacific Screen Awards
MANILA, NOVEMBER 26, 2012 - MANILA, Philippines – Filipino filmmaker Marlon Rivera has been awarded the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) Development Award at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Queensland, Australia for the critically-acclaimed “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank" ("The Woman in the Septic Tank").
Rivera, president of Publicis Manila, will receive a grant worth US$5000. "Ang Babae sa Septic Tank" is the second film from the Philippines to be awarded the ASPA NETPAC prize. In 2011, it was won by Sheron Dayoc for the 2010 Cinemalaya entry "Halaw" ("Ways of the Sea").
![]() Another adman, Brillante Mendoza, took home the honor of an Achievement in Directing for "The Womb", starred by Nora Aunor, who won Best Performance by an Actress. "Thy Womb" also received the Bisato D’Oro, La Navicella or Venezia Cinema prize and the P Nazareno Taddei Award Special Mention at the 69th Venice International Film Festival in September.
The 2012 Asia Pacific Screen Awards was held November 23 at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
