GMA launches 1st Facebook-only news cast #GMAnewsfeed

MANILA – GMA News has just launched #GMAnewsfeed last week, what it claims as the first mainstream Facebook-only newscast in the Philippines.

To be anchored by Ivan Mayrina, each 2 minute long pre-recorded news cast offers a quick recap of the day’s most important news and trending stories. Debuted last May 11, #GMAnewsfeed will run alongside the official GMA News Facebook page every weekdays at 9PM.

To date, GMA News has 4.86 million followers on Facebook and another 2.93 million followers on Twitter (twitter.com/gmanews). With 120 thousand users following GMA News’ public chat, it is also the top Philippine news organization on Viber.

#GMAnewsfeed is part of GMA Network’s efforts to adapt to the constantly changing media landscape. It aims to reach not only the millenials and yuppies, but also viewers across age groups,” GMA said in a statement.

This isn’t GMA’s first social media rodeo, however. In 2010, GMA introduced  #IMReady, a campaign to raise public safety and awareness which was later expanded to dedicated apps and web portals for information like traffic, class suspensions and the like aside from the usual bad weather reports. GMA also launched “Think Before You Click” in 2011, a photo/video advocacy on responsible social media use.
