Komikon 2015: Where the Pinoy talent and passion for well-told visual stories intersect.

MANILA - On November 14 and 15, Filipino comic book artists and writers will converge at the Bayanihan Center in Pasig for the annual Komikon, a convention that celebrates the art of telling a story in words and images.

Held for a two-day stretch for the first time since it was initially held at the UP Bahay ng Alumni more than 10 years ago, the event promises to be packed with activities worth more than the Php100 one-day entrance ticket.

(Tip: try to score two-day tickets from Comic Odyssey branches.)

Featuring myriad talents from the industry --professionals and newbies among them-- expect to see creators like Manix Abrera, Mike Alcazaren, Gerry Alanguilan, Arnold Arre, Paolo Herras, Carl Javier, Tepai Pascual, Budjette Tan, and Carlo Vergara as they chat with Komikon attendees and participate in panel discussions. Jamie Bautista of Nautilus Comics will team up with Tan as they discuss the nitty-gritty involved in writing comics on November 14. Newbie comics creators who want to avoid the pitfalls of self-publishing should hang around for Ace Vitangcol and Lyndon Gregorio’s panel on the same day.

Fans of classic komiks may want to line up early for Rico Rival and Danny Acuna’s discussion on being komiks veterans on Day 1, while those who want food for thought should camp out near Conference Room E on Day 2 for “School of Comics” presented by Emil Flores and Carljoe Javier. Zsazsa Zaturnnah creator Carlo Vergara and Meganon Comic’s Paolo Herras team up for a talk about cross-platforms for komiks content on November15.

“Puti”, a film starring Ian Veneracion and Jasmine Curtis Smith will be screened at intervals throughout both days, while pub quiz addicts may enjoy the geek fights scheduled on both days.

Indie komiks will also be on sale alogside their more commercial counterparts, though it’s our bet that the fastest selling item may be Carlo Vergara’s and/or Manix Abrera’s limited edition t-shirts.

No matter which way you lean when it comes to comics, komiks, graphic novels --or if it’s all the same to you because you just love reading-- Komikon 2015 is definitely an event one shouldn’t miss.
