The Gunn Report asks: Everybody’s different, but do people change?

GLOBAL – DECEMBER 2011: Variety is the spice of life, just as how variations in culture make a country unique.

The Gunn Report released its “Vive La Difference” (Long live the difference) Reel via its website (www.gunnreport.com). The reel is a compilation of several commercials from all over the world in the 1970’s until the 2000’s that depict the different idiosyncrasies, stereotypes, and cultures that make every country different from one another.

Commercials included in the reel are Bundaberg Rum’s “Only in Australia” by Leo Burnett London (2008), Malibu Rum’s “Bus” (2000) by Lowe Lintas, Coity L’Almant’s “French Lesson” (1978) by Boase Massimi Pollitt, Budweiser’s “Whassup/Wasabi” (2000) DDB Chicago, Statoil’s “Tourist Bus” (1991) by Leo Burnett Oslo, and Mini Cooper’s “This is America” (2003) by Crispin Porter + Bogusky, to name a few.

“Are the stereotypes evolving over the years? On this evidence, not very much.  And maybe not that much in real life too. But you be the judge,” The Gunn Report said.

Along with the release of the reel, The Gunn Report encourages readers to nominate a commercial that they think should be on the Vive La Difference Reel. The first three readers whose suggestions will be chosen will get a complimentary copy of The Gunn Report and Showreel of The Year 2011 Book.

Established in 1999, The Gunn Report compiles the list of winners from notable Advertising award shows in the world annually. Over the years, the annual publication has been the resource for worldwide league tables of the most successful print and television headed by Donald Gunn and Emma Wilkie.
