Y&R invites you to burn your bad luck online for Chinese New Year

ASIA-PACIFIC – VIETNAM, JANUARY 19, 2012: The Lunar (Chinese) New Year is only a few days away, and what better way to welcome the Year of the Dragon by driving out bad luck?

Y&R Vietnam provided the design and Y&R Singapore helmed the technical support, as the agencies worked on a website especially designed for visitors who want to burn their bad luck down to ashes. Users can upload their bad luck stories, which will all be compiled with other stories and burned in a symbolic pyre at 9 pm (Singapore time; 8 pm Vietnam time) on January 21.

Kit Ong, executive creative director of Y&R Vietnam explained the concept behind their brainchild: “The more superstitious among us adopt all sorts of rituals to rid ourselves of bad luck before the approaching Chinese New Year, and Tet in Vietnam, including getting a haircut, buying new clothes or spring-cleaning. So we had the idea to create a website where people could enjoy a ceremonial burning of their bad luck stories. The guys in our Singapore office then helped us to make the idea a reality. So here’s to burning bad luck, and lots and lots of good luck in the Year of the Dragon.”
