MANILA, FEBRUARY 22, 2013 – McDonald’s and Leo Burnett Manila has tapped boxer Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire as the latest endorser for McDonald’s.
In the 33-second TV spot, Donaire is seen giving another guy a threatening look for attempting to take a piece of his fries, which were left on a bench. Viewers of the commercial, which was launched last week, took their praises for the ad to Twitter with most of them saying that the ad was “simple yet funny”.
Donaire joins fellow boxer Manny Pacquiao and celebrities like Sharon Cuneta and Xian Lim as endorsers for the fast food giant.
A history of keeping one’s eyes on own fries
The ‘Keep Your Eyes On Your Fries’ campaign is an ongoing effort by McDonald’s to set apart their “golden perfection and crisp, tender and yummy” fries apart from the pack, with the introduction of the Fry Kids in 1972. The differently-colored, shaggy, ball-like creatures with long legs and no arms are known for stealing and gobbling up other characters’ french fries. Their introduction is also accompanied by the “Keep Your Eyes on Your Fries” jingle which was also featured in a 1978 TV spot.
