BrandZ Top 50 Most Valuable Chinese Brands Announced: China Mobile is No. 1, Sina is Top Riser

ASIA-PACIFIC – CHINA, DECEMBER 21, 2011: Banking, technology, retailers, and food/beverage made a strong showing in this year’s BrandZ Top 50 Most Valuable Chinese Brands rankings. Only in its second year, the report focused on how the Chinese market is slowly transforming itself, and the brands’ efforts on creating strategies and tactics to win not only domestically but also overseas.
 
Spanning 19 different categories, reflecting the diversity of leading brands in the Chinese economy, the ranking brands represent a total value of US $325 billion or more than 5% of the Chinese economy. China Mobile clinched the top spot, while Sina was named Top Riser, increasing its brand value by 244% and climbing 15 places in the ranking.
 
The BrandZ Top 50 Most Valuable Chinese Brands highlighted the continuing rise of e-commerce opportunities, the increasing attraction of luxury brands for consumers, and the vast potential marketing to the youth, which in China is comprised of 220 million 15-to-24 year olds.
 
The report also touched on the “Age of Social Business”, when organizations and companies are restructuring around social tools, social media, and social networks for it to become a strategic element in a company’s planning, management, and operations.
 
Measured against the MSCI China Index over the past 14 months, the BrandZ China Top 50 Most Valuable Brands Portfolio has grown by 20% compared with a decline of 6% for the MSCI China Index.
 
The BrandZ Top 50 Most Valuable Chinese Brands report was conducted and released by Millward Brown, a WPP company.
