Don Papa Rum romps away with two Creative International Packaging Design Awards

MANILA, APRIL 24, 2013 – Don Papa Rum, the acclaimed premium rum from Negros province in the Philippines, has two big new reasons to break out the booze – it’s the proud recipient of a Double Gold Medal Award at the 2013 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, as well as a  GD USA Magazine American Package Design Award.

From March 21-24 this year, the 13th iteration of the San Francisco World Spirits Competition saw a record number of products and entries from around the globe. Don Papa joins an elite group of entrants that won coveted Double Gold Medal awards for packaging design, which include Canada’s Boris Vodka, Chile’s Kappa Pisco and Mexico’s Suerte Reposado Tequila.

Top brands also vied for recognition at this year’s GD USA Magazine American Package Design Awards, where Don Papa Rum also distinguished itself by winning one of the much-desired awards.

Don Papa Rum is a 100-percent Filipino product, made from sugarcane grown in Negros and then aged for more than seven years in the foothills of Negros’ Mount Kanlaon after distillation. But the product itself is only part of the story; as Andrew Garcia, local market head for Don Papa Rum, said, “[In] Don Papa, we wanted to [incorporate] beautiful packaging, a great story and, of course, a delicious rum.”
