From cyberspace to the duel rink: internet association’s open mic night

MANILA, OCTOBER 1, 2012 – The hottest issues being discussed in cyberspace was taken to the duel rink September 28 at the Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP) 3rd Open Mic Night gig, “The Main Event” at Time, 7840 Makati Avenue.

About a hundred people from the advertising and digital community flocked to the event as thought leaders discussed the country’s hottest issues that polarize the digital community. The topics discussed include: paid Twitter infuencers, bloggers and their treatment of press or praise releases, celebrities running for legislative positions in the government, cybercrime, the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill and Apple-Samsung’s iPhone5 vs S3 mobile wars.

The mobile wars illicited the most interesting arguments, ranging from the phones’ practical usage down to aesthetics. Fresh from the discussion of more serious issues, the topic seemed to let everyone relax and tap into their offbeat sides.

Commenting on the Open Mic Night, IMMAP Vice President and Leo Burnett Group chief digital officer Paul John Peña said:“IMMAP seeks to provide people from the digital community and the society at large a platform where they may share their personal stories, experiences, insights and ideas through which other people attending could also learn beyond what they would in traditional conferences.

"Part of the IMMAP OMN (Open Mic Night) DNA is to provide avenues of learning and exchange and networking against a backdrop of fun, casual, and meaningful fellowship amongst both members and non-members of IMMAP. After all, we are but one huge industry of marketing practitioners,” he said.
The event was hosted by Nestle digital marketer Ricky Baizas and PR and digital marketing consultant Marga Deona.
