THE PHILIPPINES, SEPTEMBER 21, 2012 – In a press conference on Thursday, Globe Telecom president Ernest Cu said the competition “should have a better basis” for the negative ads that has been put out.
Cu said they are not privy as to how the competition interprets the Q2 2012 network quality report by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) but that Globe “sticks to the scientific interpretation”. The report in question rates the quality of service provided by Globe and Smart using the following parameters: grade of service, drop call rate, average received signal quality, average received signal level and call setup time.
The figures presented by Globe show that even with its legacy network, Globe fares higher than Smart in terms of grade of service, and are in parity in all other parameters with almost insignificant differences. Globe’s presentation also included figures from its services in modernized Metro Cebu, which showed significantly higher results compared to Smart’s modernized network.
When asked about the spike of complaints against Globe, the officials agreed that it is partly related to the competition’s advertising efforts.
Cu also explained that network modernization is not single-phased and that Globe is still in the process of completing Metro Manila. Globe is expecting completion of Phase 1 on March 2013 and overall throughout the rest of the year.
Globe’s 1.5 million postpaid subscribers can expect a letter on Monday explaining the status of its network modernization.
Smart Communication released a statement to the press, immediately after Globe’s conference. Smart’s official press release says Globe “issued a statement that attempted to turn the results of the NTC’s Quality of Service Benchmarking Test upside down”.
