Globe Telecom joins Philippine Standard Time initiative

MANILA – January 6, 2013 – Globe Telecom joins the rest of the country in supporting the promulgation of Republic Act (RA) 10535 or the Philippine Standard Time (PhST) Act of 2013, which urges Filipinos to observe a common time under the “Juan Time, On Time” campaign.

The telco said it was tapped by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration-Deptartment of Science and Technology (PAGASA-DOST) through the National Telecommunications Commission to bolster information dissemination to its subscribers during the National Standard Time (NST) Consciousness Week.

NST Consciousness Week is currently being observed until January 7, 2014, which according to law will then be celebrated every first week of January from hereon.

RA 10535 stipulates that the observance of the NST is essential in “developing a culture of punctuality and practicing wise time management.” Toward this end, Filipinos are urged to value time consciousness, as PAGASA-DOST trumpets this movement in the entire archipelago, Globe said in a press release.

Globe Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications Yoly Crisanto said, “We actively support the implementation of the PhST as well as observance of the NST Consciousness Week with various initiatives using our modernized network and social media to reach out to our over 36 million subscribers, enjoining them to observe a common reckoning of time across the country. We are one with our countrymen in starting 2014 on time and observing thereafter Filipino Time as being Juan Time, On Time.”

Globe has mobilized efforts to encourage its customers as well as all Filipinos to synchronize their mobile phones, gadgets, and timepieces according to the official time across the Philippines, as reflected in the PAGASA-DOST PhST site. Likewise, the company has been actively promoting the initiative through social media, particularly through its Facebook page, as well as Twitter account: @enjoyglobe, both leading to the PhST website for more information about the initiative.

Globe subscribers will also be receiving free advisories through SMS, informing them of the observance of the NST Consciousness Week and the PAGASA-DOST URL where they can refer to the PhST. Likewise, Globe Stores across the country will be displaying the PhST, including mobile phones on showcase, while Globe Store staff will be ready to assist customers in adjusting the time in their phone units according to the PhST.
