GMA leads in early 2012 ratings battle

THE PHILIPPINES, JANUARY 24, 2012: Based on the January 1 to 12 (January 8 to 12 for overnight readings) data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, GMA Network, Inc.’s ratings rose from 34.2 points to 37.3, marking an increase of 3.1 points in a span of 12 days. Rival ABS-CBN posted 29.1 points, while TV5’s share was 14.8 for the same covered period.

 

Based on an estimated five viewers per household, GMA’s lead over ABS-CBN and TV5 translates to almost 1.5 million and four million viewers, respectively.

In the Urban Luzon area, which covers 77% of total television households nationwide, GMA was recorded to have an averaged household audience share of 40.4 points, ABS-CBN with 25.6, and TV5 with 14.7 in the early days of January. Converted to an estimated number of viewers, GMA’s lead is 2 million and 3.6 million viewers over ABS-CBN and TV5.

 

GMA also holds the lead in the Mega Manila area, with 41.5 points. ABS-CBN and TV5 trail with 23.8 and 15.6 over the same time period. Mega Manila comprises 59.5% of total television households nationwide. The lead translates to 2 million and and 2.9 million viewers against ABS-CBN and TV5, respectively.

 

GMA is set to launch new program offerings both on the prime time and afternoon blocks for the most part of the first quarter of 2012. The network is also preparing on-air and online platforms for its partner-advertisers.
