Grammy nominees Macklemore & Ryan Lewis bound for Manila

MANILA – January 20, 2014 – Popping tags at second hand stores was never this cool until a ‘white dude from Seattle’ named Macklemore (born Ben Haggerty) and his DJ and producer Ryan Lewis, turned it into a song that the world just couldn’t get enough of.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are set to perform at the Mall of Asia Arena on March 16, 2014, organizer Concertus Manila said in a press release.

American Music Awards applauded the indie hip hop duo’s efforts with six nominations, winning the Best Hip Hop/Rap Album category, while the recent Grammy announcements gave them seven nods, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for the socially-relevant song, ‘Same Love (I Can’t Change).’

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were recently seen surprising a bus full of New Yorkers in a film created by TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles for The Grammy’s

The duo have also received massive support and admiration from Hollywood. Ellen De Generes can’t stop talking about them. Eminem declared to Rolling Stones  magazine ‘Macklemore is dope.’ Even Ed Sheeran, who is nominated in the same category as Macklemore, prefers that the Seattle-born rapper and his pal, win the coveted Grammy for Best New Artist.  "They’ve achieved so much this year in popular culture," Sheeran said in a CNN interview.

American Billboard, too, showed approval, with’Thrift Shop’ sitting comfortably on the number one spot of the yearend Hot 100 charts across all genres. Other songs that made the Billboard charts include ‘White Walls,’ a song about Cadillacs, and ‘Can’t Hold Us,’ Spotify’s #1 streamed song for 2013.

Not bad at all for a couple of young musicians who made a solid name for themselves out of low-budget videos, homemade recordings, and a penchant for living below your means and being proud of it.

The concert is presented by Wize and Ope and in part by Concertus Manila and Monster Radio RX 93.1.
