JWT sets foot in Myanmar

ASIA-PACIFIC – MYANMAR, APRIL 22, 2013 – JWT signed an affiliation agreement last week with Mango Marketing to seal its plans to enter Myanmar, now considered a new growth market in Asia.

“There’s been an extremely high level of interest in Myanmar among our clients since the economic sanctions began to ease. The country is on the radar of many major companies operating in Asia,” said Michael Maedel, chairman of JWT Asia Pacific. “This agreement signals JWT’s commitment to help develop those business opportunities for our clients in this important emerging market.”

Global CEO Bob Jeffrey was keen to point out that JWT has always been an early mover in emerging growth markets. Milestones include JWT’s move into India in 1929 and Japan in 1952. It was also the first international agency to open in Nepal in 1998.

The agreement will grant Mango Marketing access to JWT’s digital and creative resources, as well as footing for the global network’s clients.

Set up as a full advertising agency in 2004, Mango Marketing has established a notable roster of clients which includes Unilever, F&N, Power House, GP Watch, iquor company IBTC, and Manila-based United Pharma. The agency is ran by Burmese entrepreneurs Lynn Lynn Tin Htun and Aye Hnin Swe.

Htun, managing director of Mango Marketing, stated, “We believe that JWT can add global inspiration and creative advertising ‘best practices’ to our local dedication.”
