Lufthansa calls review of MindShare-held global media brief

GLOBAL AUGUST 16, 2013 – MindShare has been placed on alert after German carrier Lufthansa confirmed plans to review its global media planning and buying arrangements.

The WPP network has had the business, pegged at more US$100 million globally for more than a decade. Lufthansa’s last review was in 2010, which saw MindShre defend its grip on the business in a shoot-out that included Aegis Group’s Carat and Interpublic’s Universal McCann.

The review comes in the wake Lufthansa, Europe’s largest airline, upgrading its fleet to the tune of billions of dollars. The carrier currently spends the bulk of its advertising budget in key travel markets outside the US.

A new marketing head, Alexander Schlaubitz, who took up marketing responsibilities a few months back, is expected to spearhead the review. Schlaubitz has worked with agencies and digital companies, including Publicis network Leo Burnett, Facebook and Change Communications prior to joining Lufthansa in January this year.
