Nickelodeon launches international search for new writing talent

SINGAPORE – January 7, 2014 – Nickelodeon is welcoming in 2014 with the international expansion of its outreach program to unearth and identify new writing talent, the company announced in a press release.

Building on the success of the U.S. program, the Nickelodeon Writing Program will launch globally in January 2014 and is designed to attract writers spanning all international markets, cultures and backgrounds – culminating with one lucky applicant securing a unique opportunity to learn all about being a writer for Nickelodeon Network Productions.

The six-month program will offer the successful applicant a salaried position in Nickelodeon’s International headquarters, based in London, providing unique, hands-on experience writing scripts and pitching story ideas for both live action and animation.

The three-phase program will give writers an opportunity to nurture relationships with creators, network executives, line producers, head writers, show-runners and story editors; whilst undertaking specialist training activities to develop their talent. The chosen writer will also be invited to attend storyboard pitches, series meetings and tapings, working alongside some of the Network’s top creatives.

The programme will be divided into three parts. Phase One will involve the writer spending two months networking internally and attending a number of specialist training sessions, boot camps and classes. Phase Two will incorporate six weeks of further development, before travelling to Nickelodeon’s U.S. studio to experience development activities, series production and post-production. This will be crucial to the success of Phase Three, whereby the writer will be assigned to work remotely to write one full-length script for a Nickelodeon live action or animation series.

Submissions are open from January 2 until February 28. To apply, entrants must be 18 years or older.

The international winner will be announced in October 2014.
