Smart launches 4G Pocket WiFi amidst test result row with Globe

THE PHILIPPINES, SEPTEMBER 24, 2012 – Smart Communication has made its Smart LTE Pocket Wifi available to the market – a device which will enable users to enjoy LTE (Long Term Evolution) speeds even on non-LTE enabled gadgets.

Smart launched its plug-in LTE service towards the end of August, claiming first in the Philippines to offer 4G technology enjoyed in more developed countries like Japan, Australia, the United States and China.

With the launch of its Pocket WiFi, Smart brings the “fastest wireless technology in the world today” even closer to millions of Filipinos, extending it even to non-Smart subscribers. LTE is capable of download speeds of over 100Mbps, allowing for faster gaming, streaming and downloading.

Smart sent out an official statement to the press last Thursday as a rebuttal to Globe’s press conference held in the same day. Smart called Globe’s interpretation of NTC’s benchmark results “selective”, saying it “defies arithmetic, and, more importantly, flies in the face of consumer experience”.

Smart cited NTC’s report, showing it rated higher than Globe in four out of five parameters. Smart called out its competition for downplaying the parameters, pointing out that Globe focused on “blocked calls”, where it showed favorable results.

According to Smart, Globe’s press statement also contains a “substantive misinterpretation” of the Average Receive Signal Level. Smart says the NTC results show that its signal is up to five times stronger than Globe’s.
