Study says online engagement in PH is slowing down

MANILA, OCTOBER 29, 2012 – Universal McCann has released Wave 6 of its annual social media study.

The EMEA Research team in collaboration with Universal McCann’s network of agencies conducts Wave. The survey was carried out through 41,737 16-54 aged active Internet users in 62 countries – 507 from the Philippines.

The study shows that average Internet usage in the country is slightly skewed to males (52%) than females (48%), more than half aged 16-24.

Interestingly, the survey shows active engagement in the country is slowing down, even though it still has highest engagement among all monitored markets – online activities are decreasing except viewing others’ social network pages.

Filipinos also believe that blogs and microblogs are now on par with newspapers, while time spent watching videos online is catching up to time spent watching TV.

While concerned about revealing personal data online, Filipinos still upload photos, update status messages and refresh their online profiles.
