Yahoo! integrates its location-based SNS with BBM in Indonesia

ASIA-PACIFIC – JAKARTA, INDONESIA, NOVEMBER 2011: Yahoo! Koprol, Indonesia‟s first location-based social networking site (LBS) today announced its integration with the latest version of BlackBerry Messenger 6 (BBM6), one of the most popular messenger products in Indonesia. This partnership enables users to leverage the latest features of both Koprol and BBM6 and have a seamless experience across both platforms.

“Mobile internet adoption and social networking in Indonesia is growing at a remarkable pace and BBM6 integration was the right strategy for Yahoo!. Now, Indonesians can have a great social experience across multiple platforms and enjoy the flexibility of connecting with their contacts via one of the largest mobile social networks,” said Yahoo! Indonesia Country Manager, Pontus Sonnerstedt.

“While most social networks keep you in front of the computer, Yahoo! Koprol goes with you and is part of the user experience in finding friends in real life. The availability of Yahoo! Koprol on BBM6 enables easy check-ins, and allows users to find other Koprollers profile information, consolidate content on popular topics and local social events and even rewards users for being social,” said Co-founder of Yahoo! Koprol Satya Witoelar.

In Indonesia, Yahoo! is #1 for Email, Messenger, News, Entertainment, Travel, Flickr and Personal Homepage.

The integration with BBM6 is a part of the premier digital media company‟s constant innovation strategy to create new and better ways for people to discover, consume and share their online worlds. One of the interesting features of the integration is the chatting functionality where users can chat in real-time with other Koprol users via a BBM6 API by simply downloading the latest version of Koprol.

Within the Koprol BlackBerry interface, users will be able to view and follow other users who are nearby and instantly initiate a chat with them without even needing to have other Blackberry PIN number.

Currently, Koprol is available on other platforms such as Java, Android, HTML5 and Web/Mobile site. By downloading the Koprol app on the mobile, Indonesians now stand a chance to win BlackBerry devices. To participate in the contest, users can log on to koprol.com/bbm until January 15,  2012.
