Yahoo! Philippines collaborates with ANC

MANILA – JULY 19, 2013 – Yahoo! Philippines and ANC announced on Thursday its news content partnership, which will facilitate both parties’ platform expansion. This is the first collaboration in Southeast Asia replicating Yahoo’s partnerships in the United States.

Local news channel ANC will have its own section on the Yahoo! Philippines News site (www.anc.yahoo.com). This portal contains news articles and multimedia content like photos and videos that are prepared by ANC portal’s editorial staff. Managing editor Alcuin Papa will lead the production and publishing of news articles on the site. ANC’s program schedule, tweets from @ANCALERTS and videos of exclusive interviews and news reports originally broadcasted on ANC are also available on the portal.

“This is truly an exciting milestone for both ANC and Yahoo!,” said Yahoo! Philippines country manager and country editor Kate Delos Reyes. ”This partnership is a true online and on-air collaboration that aims to reinvent how consumers access news across screens. It will enable us to bring together cutting-edge development in news creation and delivery by combining ANC’s top-class journalism with Yahoo!’s enormous scale and technology.”

ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs (INCA) chief Ging Reyes said: "The team will ensure that the very best of ANC’s on-air content will reach Yahoo! Philippines’ large base of 2 million daily users – from the freshest news to exclusive news to special features. ANC’s core strength has always been its ability and commitment to deliver round-the-clock news to viewers in and outside of the Philippines."

According to Delos Reyes, ANC and Yahoo share the same vision of bringing fast and accurate news content. This collaboration is expected to generate an increase in Yahoo! Philippines’ daily average user base of 2.1 million.

However, the ANC Yahoo! site will not directly compete with ABS-CBNnews.com, the news website of ABS-CBN.

"The audience of ABS-CBNnews.com is we are providing news about the Filipinos for Filipinos anywhere they are. With ANC, we’re trying to angle the articles so that they serve a global audience. It’s news about the Filipino to anybody who is interested. Also we hired a different editorial team, who will be angling the news differently for this market. There will be different articles on ANC Yahoo and different articles on ABS-CBNnews.com," said Anna Rodriguez, head of the News Digital Media department.

An extensive coverage of of the 2013 State of the Nation Address (SONA) by President Benigno Aquino III will mark the formal commencement of the collaboration between Yahoo! Philippines and ANC. The coverage will stream live both online through the Yahoo! Philippines News site and on-air through ANC on Monday next week.
