Commercial and printing possibilities redefined

MANILA, FEBRUARY 11, 2013 – As part of its mid term growth strategy to 2015, Epson, a world leader in digital imaging and printing solutions, has launched eight new printer models, in line with its aim to drive growth in commercial and industrial printing.

These encompass:
Three signage printers: The Epson SureColor S series
Three Computer Aided Design (CAD) printers: The Epson SureColor T series
Digital dry photo lab printers: The Epson SureLab SL-D3000, which has Single Roll and Dual Roll models with auto media switching

Harnessing the power of Epson’s proprietary Micro PiezoTM print head technology, Epson’s new offerings will give customers highly valued capabilities such as low cost, high speed, and high quality printing.  Most importantly, the low heat involved in the operation of the Micro PiezoTM print head allows a wider range of ink types and substrates to be used compared to competing thermal-based technologies.

Epson President Minoru Usui, who was also the lead engineer of the team that developed Epson’s Micro PiezoTM technology in the early 90s said, “Epson’s Micro PiezoTM technology is ideal for almost any industrial printing application. Therefore, it is my dream that one day, everything will be printed by Epson.”

The new lines of Epson printers include:
New Epson SureColor S Series Signage Printers
New Epson SureColor T Series Technical/Computer Aided Design (CAD) Printers
Epson SureLab D3000

Micro Piezo redefining commercial and industrial printing
Epson’s proprietary Micro Piezo technology is at the heart of the new Epson C&I printers – the new printers redefine commercial and industrial printing by delivering the benefits of Versatility, Durability of the print head, High Quality Images, High Speed Printing, and Low Power Consumption.

1. Ink versatility.
Since Micro PiezoTM technology does not apply heat stress to the ink, a wider range of inks can be used, such as solvent ink for signage, color filters, and UV-cured ink. This expands printing options, including those for industrial use.

2. Durability of the print head.
Since performance does not deteriorate due to heating, the print head is highly durable and reliable, making it possible for Epson printers to respond to not only the needs of the consumer market but also the rigorous performance requirements of the industrial printing field.

3. High Quality Images
The Micro PiezoTM print head precisely places ink droplets in accurate volume with the tiniest droplet the head can emit (1.5 picoliters). Epson’s Multi Size Dot Technology (MSDT) also allows the ink volume to be constantly adjusted. This makes for beautiful gradation and image quality with almost no signs of graininess. In addition, Epson’s Advanced Meniscus Control, which prevents variation caused by ink left within the ink reservoirs in the printing head, ensures that ink droplets always form round dots and can be placed with precision.

4. High Speed printing
MSDT, combined with Epson’s efficient image-processing technology, also permits high-speed printing due to the precise control of the ink dot size. The high frequency oscillation of the piezo element generates over 40,000 ink drops per second. This technology is being continually advanced to achieve even higher speeds without sacrificing quality.

5. Low Power Consumption
Epson Micro PiezoTM print heads use less power than thermal inkjet print heads because the piezoelectric method of ink ejection is far more efficient. The resistors used by thermal print heads to heat the ink consume a much higher amount of power compared to the piezoelectric method. In addition, since the technology can be incorporated in production lines, it holds the promise of transforming industries by reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing.

EPC country manager Toshimitsu Tanaka pointed out that global technologies will help provide the tools for Filipino businesses to elevate the standards of printing. “The products will be of great benefit for indoor and outdoor signage printing, fine art professionals, CAD users including architects, engineers and GIS professionals, commercial printers, photo printing professionals, and professional photographers. Epson has Japanese technology and expertise to offer, and we are committed to support Filipino businesses by giving them access to our global technologies.”

Furthermore, Tanaka expressed confidence in the growth potential of the commercial and industrial sectors in the Philippines, as he projected sales growth for Epson from these areas.  “We believe that with these new products and other Epson C&I products in the pipeline, we will have the momentum to aggressively extend our commercial & industrial printing growth.”
