Finding stillness in a chaotic world: Bongkojthip Bhirombhakdi’s Peace in Solitude

BANGKOK, THAILAND – In an age where constant noise and perpetual motion define daily life, Thai artist Bongkojthip “Bua” Bhirombhakdi invites audiences to step into a sanctuary of calm with her latest solo exhibition, Peace in Solitude, now on view at Mini Xspace Gallery.

Following the contemplative resonance of her earlier series, Journey to Tranquility, which explored imagined natural landscapes of seas, skies, mountains, and ecosystems, Bhirombhakdi now turns inward. Peace in Solitude is an exploration of stillness itself – an artistic meditation on the quiet clarity that arises when one embraces solitude.

At the heart of this new body of work lies a shift in both process and perspective. Bhirombhakdi continues to employ the wet-on-wet technique, yet abandons the brush in favor of working directly with her hands. This tactile approach transforms pigment and water into organic flows, mirroring the spontaneity of nature while embodying an act of mindfulness. The result is a collection of paintings that are at once intimate and expansive, carrying viewers into the artist’s own meditative state.

“For me, solitude is not emptiness. It is fullness. It is where the noise quiets down. You, then, begin to embrace the present moment and that’s when peace is no longer something to seek. It begins to gently surface. My hope is that viewers can feel this stillness through the work and carry a little of it with them,” says Bongkojthip Bhirombhakdi.

Her works extend beyond aesthetic beauty and are sensorial invitations to pause, to breathe, and to dwell in the present moment. Audiences can experience this sanctuary firsthand at Mini Xspace Gallery, Bangkok, where the exhibition runs from August 2 to September 27, 2025, open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
