Campaign Spotlight: RH Advocates Launch #DoItRight Initiative to Open Conversations on Reproductive Health and Family Planning

It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a coalition of 11 organizations to promote child spacing, sex positivity, and reproductive health. In time for the National Family Planning Month, the coalition launched #DoItRight on Friday, August 16.

During the press launch in Makati, Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM) Undersecretary Juan Antonio Perez III showed the commission’s support for the campaign to save women’s lives and avoid unplanned pregnancies. He added that the campaign hits the right notes in reproductive health as the government is increasing its efforts to implement the Reproductive Health Law.

This was echoed by the President of The Forum for Family Planning and Development Benjamin de Leon who said, “The time is right for the Do It Right campaign because the social and political climate in the Philippines is changing rapidly and favorably.”

Designed to tap on the silent majority who personally supports family planning initiatives, Do It Right will be a full-blown initiative that will be primarily launched on social media, and will include activations, print, out-of-home (OOH) and radio as well.

The goal of the campaign is to change attitudes and open conversations about family planning and reproductive health that would otherwise be obscured from public platform, says Hyam Asher Bolande, Chairman of the Board of DKT Philippines.

He added that the taboo treatment and hesitation to approach these topics positively is “unnecessary, outdated and harmful.” Moreover, the absence of conversations is a barrier to seeking out information. “This topic can be out of the closet now in a cheerful and celebratory way.”

Backed by DKT International, Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP), Forum for Family Planning and Development Inc., Philippine Society for Responsible Parenthood, LoveYourself Inc, RTI International, SheDecides Philippines, Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines,Private Practicing Midwives of the Philippines, Midwives Foundation of the Philippines INC. (MFPI) and the Philippine League of Government and Private Midwives, the campaign is open to likeminded individuals and agencies to strengthen the movement.
