NU 107 to lose its rock edge

PHILIPPINES, NOVEMBER 4, 2010 – After a week of unconfirmed rumors and months of speculation, now it can be told: NU 107.5 FM will end transmission at 11:59PM on Sunday, November 7. The NU Rock Awards made its final bow on October 29.

Fans of the station went wild online discussing the topic, fueled by a now-deleted blog post from News Goose.

"The Home of New Rock" has been the breeding ground for talented rock bands for over two decades. The station will reportedly reformat to pop music, leading commenters to say that it will be the "home of no rock".

NU’s head honcho Atom Henares has declined to comment on this change. His son, director and NU 107 DJ Quark Henares, wrote on the blog post with the schedule for the station’s last few days: "It’s time to come clean, everyone. after 23 years, NU107 is finally closing shop. we’re sorry it took so long for us to confirm this. we were hoping for a miracle, I guess."

Only two other FM stations, Jam 88.3 and UR 105.9, are currently devoted to alternative- and rock-oriented programming.

NU 107 belongs to the Progressive Broadcasting Network, which also operates UNTV 37.
