The Farm: incubating social design

Facebook’s Farm Town isn’t the only one enjoying a growth spurt: indie art/design space The Farm Gallery in Morato is also bursting into life.  Founded by graphic designer Russel Vergara and partners to ‘provide knowledge for artists and designers to create works that has an impact on society’, The Farm debuts new exhibit themes monthly.

Running until June 8 is an exhibit dubbed “Creativity & Global Crisis”, where young artists showcased artwork that captured Filipinos engaged in everyday survival. The artists turned the gritty, sweaty palengke [public market] into a beautiful inspiration.

“Aside from hosting exhibits, we also invite professionals to give insights to students and fresh graduates,” said Vergara. Their most recent activity included talks for Portfolio Development, Design for Social Impact, and Branding for Filipino Brands with speakers Pema Domingo-Barker, Dan Matutina of Ideals, Rose Vergara of Helpwork Inc., and Ric Gindap of Vgrafiks. The sessions are done informally, for a more intimate feel, and interaction between speakers and audience.
The Farm is a joint advocacy of social branding enterprise Vgrafiks Design + Consultancy and social welfare development agency Helpwork Inc..  More at www.thefarmprojects.org to know more.
