DAVID GUERRERO LEADS 25TH CREATIVE GUILD

Amidst the partying at the recent Creative Summit in Boracay, BBDO Guerrero Ortega’s chairman and CCO, David Guerrero, was elected president of the Creative Guild of the Philippines. He and his board of directors, composed mostly of new faces, were presented to the delegates and guests at the Kidlat Awards night.

Along with Guerrero, McCann Erickson’s Deputy ECD Dino Jalandoni returns to the board, with a bump up to the position of vice president and director for Ways & Means. Eugene de Mata, ECD of DM9 JaymeSyfu, is also back and now shares the committee on Competition with two new directors, Dino Ocampo of OgilvyOne and Shu Manalo of J Romero. JimenezBasic’s Third Domingo, another incumbent, takes the newly minted post of director for Young Creatives.

The two remaining directors are new to Guild: Katrina Gomez-Limchoc of PC&V Communications, elected to the joint post of Secretary and Treasurer, and JWT’s Dave Ferrer, director for Communications. Ferrer’s role is also newly created post, and his first mandate is to assemble and publish the first Kidlat Awards annual.

In accepting the post, Guerrero briefly talked about his platform. Basically, it stood on three legs: for the Creative Summit to “come back next year [to Boracay], to do something for training for the people in the industry, and to convince clients of the link between creativity and effectiveness…probably bring clients into the next show.”

This is Guerrero’s fourth year on the board of directors, but despite his high profile and reputation, this is only his first term as president.

In previous terms, he held the office of vice president and director for Competition. A few observers commented that now that old guards of the Guild have stepped down, Guerrero’s bid for leadership was finally accepted and in fact, welcomed.

More likely, it is a sign that the Guild has come around to a new way of thinking about its role in the 4As-Philippines and the country’s place in global advertising scene.
