MANILA, FEBRUARY 18, 2013 – Due to an “explosion of vote buying” in 2010, the (PPCRV) has teamed up with the Advertising Board of the Philippines (Adboard) to mount a campaign against vote-buying in the May 13 senatorial elections.
In an article posted on the Catholic Bishops Council of the Philippines (CBCP) news site, Ana De Villa-Singson, PPCRV communications head, said, “We’re choosy about almost everything else so why not about the candidates we vote into office?”
The church-based poll watchdog group is looking at releasing audio-visual materials “that will make one stop, think, and reflect before selling his vote and his future.”
According to Singson, the gravity of vote buying has shifted from individual votes to wholesale buying of votes of entire families and even barangays.
