GLOBAL – JULY 30, 2012: General Motors chief global marketing executive Joel Ewanick, has resigned just two years after joining the US auto giant from Japanese rival Nissan.
Ewanick joined GM in 2010 to help the then beleaguered US automotive manufacturer remake its image.
He was previously the marketing chief for Nissan North America and before that was vice president for marketing of Hyundai Motor America.
In his short time at the company, Ewanick had been aggressive with GM’s image building. Measures included a decision to stop advertising on Facebook right before the social media site’s initial public offering and a push to consolidate GM’s ad agencies.
GM’s vice president for US sales and service, Alan Batey, will take over Ewanick’s global marketing duties in the interim.
