Old Spice follows up Grand Prix win with “Questions”

GLOBAL – Does “swan dive” mean anything to you? If not, you probably missed the Old Spice commercial that debuted Wednesday. "Questions" is the sequel to Wieden + Kennedy’s Grand Prix-winning "The Man Your Man Can Smell Like". Once again, it stars Isaiah Mustafa making a one-shot wonder look like CGI, without mentioning that the product is the After Hours variant of its Red Zone Body Wash line. Clever set design, funny delivery, and a sexy talent make for almost a million YouTube views in just two days.

The first commercial, better known as "I’m on a horse" because of its last line, debuted in February. It was seen online, on TV screens on Super Bowl Sunday and in theaters during Valentine’s Day weekend, later reinforced by a 15-seconder with Mustafa riding a horse backwards.

Proof of the ad’s popularity: “I’m on a horse” now has the Urban Dictionary definition of “phrase used when trying to reinforce what a badass you are”. Mustafa, who was unknown before the airing of the commercial, signed a talent deal with NBC last month and is about to work on the film Free Enterprise 2.
