DDB Singapore Bound for Cannes Young Lions Competition 2011

SINGAPORE, APRIL 18, 2011 – DDB Singapore’s Naresh Kumar and Suhaimi Saadan were proclaimed Film Category winners at MediaCorp’s Young Creatives Competition and would represent the country at the Cannes Young Lions Competition 2011.

DDB’s film campaign notes that, “Over 400,000 Southeast Asian girls are turned into prostitutes.” Joji Jacob, Executive Creative Director, DDB & RAPP Singapore congratulated the Kumar and Saadan, saying, “I’m really happy for the guys and very proud of them. We picked them straight out of college a year and half ago, nurtured and guided them, and I’m happy to see their talents bloom. We believe this is a young people’s business and that is why we have initiatives like the annual DDB University which helps recruit, mentor and train our young folks.”

The team won four-day passes to the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, return air tickets and hotel accommodation. Moreover, they will also represent Singapore at the Young Spikes Creative Competition at Spikes Asia 2011 and receive three-day passes to the event which will be held in Singapore from September 18 to 20.

The year 2011, welcomed the film category, noting that Singapore will be represented in the Cannes Young Lions Film Competition the first time.

All teams joining the contest were composed of an art director and a copywriter below 28 years of age who work in creative agencies based in Singapore . They are given 48 hours to conceptualize and design an ad campaign to raise awareness of a non-profit organization about illegal sex trafficking of young women and children in the region. This cause was supported by the Singapore National Committee for UN Women.

Joining the DDB duo is JWT Singapore’s creative, Karan Dang and XM-Asia’s Celeste Ang, winners of the Print Category.
