Digital: Spotify Launches Efforts to Assist Artists, and Send Donations for COVID-19 Relief

NEW YORK, USA – The COVID-19 pandemic has left many lost and depressed. Music, as has been said countless times before, can help uplift spirits or take people to places that remind them of good times. Keeping that in mind, music streaming service Spotify has come up with a few initiatives to help their audience, as well as the artists who use Spotify to deliver their music to their fans, during the pandemic.

Through the Spotify website, the Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief project will recommend a growing list of verified organizations that offer financial relief to those most in need in the music community. Spotify is making a donation to these organizations and will match donations made via the site dollar for dollar up to a collective total of USD $10 million.

Currently, Spotify has partnered with MusiCares, PRS Foundation, Help Musicians, Unison Benevolent Fund, Centre National de la Musique, Deutsche Orchester-Stifttung, Initiative Musik, Irish Music Industry Covid-19 Emergency Relief Fund, Fond for Utøvende Kunstnere, Unison Benevolent Fund, Support Act, Brazilian Union of Composers, Music Health Alliance, and Musikerförbundets. The list is still growing as more and more organizations are lending their support to the initiative.

In addition, Spotify for Artists has launched the Artist Fundraising Pick to enable artists who are interested in raising money to support themselves, their bands, or their crews, to get the word out to their fans on their Spotify artist profiles. Artists can now highlight a fundraising donation just like they can highlight any piece of music to highlight on their profile as an Artist’s Pick.
