Tondo Futkaleros celebrate seven years on the road less traveled

MANILA – October 2, 2013 – This October, Tondo Futkaleros celebrates its seven-year journey on the road less traveled.

The whole month is about trying to make a difference, as Futkal founder Peter Amores put it: "One kid at a time using football as a catalyst for social change."

During the month-long celebration, Futkal will be partnering with different organizations to conduct a number of social projects.

The activities begin on October 6, when Futkal will be in Cainta, Rizal to teach kids from the Gawad Kalinga Rizal chapter. This activity will be held in partnership with U! happyevents

The second event is on October 12, when they will conduct a Futkal clinic with Multiple Intelligence International School, teaching kids from another GK chapter.

The closing event is the annual of "Kopa ng Pagsilang" (Cup of Life). "This event is not only a celebration but a tribute to Life. An anticipated event for the kids to play and have fun and make friends," Amores said.

The tournament is dedicated to Miguel G. Dizon, an avid football player and enthusiast from Ateneo, who passed away due to an aneurysm. The tournament was created by Dizon’s family three years ago, in loving memory of their son and his passion for the game and love of life.

Amores also shared that Tondo Futkaleros hosted and played with 35 special athletes on the 4th International Eunice Kennedy Shriver day (EKS day) at the Amoranto sports complex on September 28.

The tournament’s theme was "Play unified to live unified" promoting unity, acceptance and inclusion, breaking down barriers of negative stereotypes towards people with intellectual disabilities using the sport of Futsal as an avenue for social change.
