Fresh from hauling in Gold Lions at this year’s Cannes Festival of Creativity, Dentsu Jayme Syfu and TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno claimed Grand Prix wins from AD STARS 2018 for Outdoor and Film respectively.

Dentsu Jayme Syfu’s “Dead Whale” continues to make a splash in the awards circuit after winning the coveted Grand Prix for Outdoor. The agency’s campaign to raise awareness against plastic pollution in the oceans for Greenpeace Philippines further grabbed Golds in Outdoor Craft – Art Direction and Design, a Silver in Diverse Insights, and Bronzes in Interactive and PR.

Toby Talbot, Executive Judge and Chief Creative Officer at Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand, gave his thoughts on the campaign, saying, “we loved the purity of this idea, the effort that’s gone into it, and the fact it achieved so much more than anyone thought it would. Only when you got up close could you see that it wasn’t a giant beached whale after all, it was an installation made of plastic, making a direct correlation between pollution and dead fish.”

Adding to Dentsu Jayme Syfu’s laurels is a Crystal for “Gabbie, the Anti-Sexual Harassment Chatbot” for women’s rights group Gabriela Philippines under the Public Service Advertising (PSA) category.

Coming from a Grand Prix win in South Korea last year, TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno comes home again with another top award, this time for “Disgusting Stories”. The campaign for Bahay Tuluyan aims to raise awareness for sexually abused children was actually taken down by Facebook which saw the video as violating its community standards. The social media platform since restored the video after the agency appealed its reinstatement. This did not stop the ad from being viewed worldwide and now, winning a Grand Prix, plus Golds in Film – Film Craft (Use of music) and Video Stars, a Silver in Film – Film Craft (Direction), and a Bronze in PSA.

“Disgusting Stories stood out for lots of reasons with the overriding being its capacity to move us to tears. The slow reveal of the children’s animations is simple, engaging and ultimately heartbreaking and the choice of music is outstanding. Powerful stuff told in an understated way,” said jury member Judy Hill, Executive Producer at Nexus Studios in London.

The agency further won a Print Crystal for “Covered Raw” for Advertising Age, a PSA – Human Rights Bronze and a PSA – Peace & Justice Crystal for “Love thy Neighbor” for Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (Broadcasters Association of the Philippines).

NuWorks Interactive Labs, Inc., McCann Worldgroup Philippines, Ogilvy & Mather Philippines, and Publicis JimenezBasic also shone for the Philippines with awards of their own.

NuWorks Interactive Labs, Inc. received a Bronze and a Silver for “Greenwich Box Pizza Multiplayer Console” for Greenwich under the Design category and two Bronzes for “Flawless For All” for Intelligent Skin Care, Inc. under the Social & Influencer category.

McCann Worldgroup Philippines followed with two Radio & Audio trophies — a Crystal for “Lives ‘Darling’” and a Bronze for “Lives ‘Moe’” for client Fully Booked.
