Turkish Airline’s Selfie Shootout is YouTube’s Ad of the Decade

GLOBAL –  A 2013 advert from Turkish Airlines, starring sports superstars Lionel Messi and Kobe Bryant, was voted as the YouTube ad of the decade.

As part of  its 10th anniversary celebrations,  YouTube shortlisted  20 remarkable adverts, in partnership with the Webby Awards, and let advertisers and marketers to vote. Audiences have been voting too—with their views.

“Kobe vs. Messi: The Selfie Shootout” wasn’t an award magnet compared to the other four entries who all placed in major ad awards. But with over 140 million views to date, it seems to have won the viewing public.

A sequel to Turkish Airline’s 2012 Legends on Board spot, the selfie battle also found it’s way to the top of both the December 2013 and Cannes Special Edition YouTube Ads Leaderboards.

On the leader’s tail is the 2012 Volkswagen “The Force” commercial, featuring a child Darth Vader discovering his powers with a Pissat, which has been viewed 62 million times.
