Oscar-nominated “Logorama” makes viewing 2,500 brands a cinematic experience

It is Oscar time once again, and one of the animated shorts in competition is "Logorama".

Remember that Facebook quiz about how many logos you can name? If you liked that one, you are in for a treat. In fact, it doesn’t matter where you stand on the "I want my logo bigger" debate; you will love this one.

"Logorama" appeared in the opening night shorts program at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Directed by the H5 group (founded by Ludovic Houplain), the story takes place in a world full of corporate and brand logos. It lasts no more than 16 minutes but still manages to pay homage to an assortment of film genres and feature as many as 2,500 brand icons.

To date, it has received the following accolades:

  • Kodak Discovery Award for Best Short Film (the Kodak Prix)- Critics’ Week, Cannes Film Festival 2009
  • Audience Award – Festival International de Curtas Metragans 2009
  • Audience Award – Lille International Short Film Festival 2009
  • Jury’s Special Prize, Audience Prize, Fuji Prize for Best Directors – Cinanima International Animated Film Festival 2009
  • Best Short Film – Stockholm International Film Festival 2009
  • Best Direction, Audience Award – Vendome Film Festival 2009
  • Gold Medal for Animation – Zinebi, Bilbao International Film Festival 2009
  • Nomination for Best Short Film (Animated) – 82nd Academy Awards (2010)

Earlier today, we still had the link to the full video but apparently with the great interest in the Oscar noms, that has been pulled out because of potential copyright infringement. Ironic, for a film that used 2,500 logos with no permission. What remains is an excerpt, seen below.

(Warning: the short film contains graphic violence and explicit language, so parental guidance is recommended. But the trailer below is safe for the office.)
