Singapore government’s “e-engagement” makes public feedback comfortable

ASIA-PACIFIC – SINGAPORE, MARCH 14, 2012: Partnering with social media marketing company iHub Media, Singapore’s REACH (Reaching Everyone for Active Citizenry @ Home) conducted a live Facebook chat between government officials and citizens regarding the country’s new budget proposals for 2012.

Dubbed “FB Chat”, the pilot initiative by REACH was attended by at least 40 participants, who discussed with officials their suggestions and views on healthcare, transport, and government aid for lower income families.

REACH is the Singapore government’s feedback arm which allows the citizens to interact with the government and its representatives through a familiar, comfortable platform. It was officially appointed as the government’s official e-engagement platform in 2009, after restructuring its functions in 2006 to include not only gathering public feedback but also engaging and connecting with the citizens.
