Save the Children reveals winners of first ‘anti-hunger and malnutrition’ Media Awards

MANILA – Save the Children announces the top six winners of its first ‘Save the Children Media Awards: Uncovering Child Hunger and Malnutrition’, a competition recognizing media practitioners and their work in highlighting hunger and malnutrition as an urgent national concern.

Ten finalists were shortlisted for the categories ‘Most Outstanding Article’ and ‘Most Outstanding Photograph’ while special citations were given under Short films category. Voting for the People’s Choice Awards for Most Outstanding Photo and Most Outstanding Article was also opened to the public through Save the Children’s website: www.savethechildren.org.ph/LahatDapat

The media awards competition is part of Save the Children’s Lahat Dapat campaign which is the organization’s biggest campaign yet against child hunger and malnutrition.

Save the Children Country Director, Ned Olney, said: “The mass media have a critical role to play in informing governments, encouraging policy changes, vocalizing public clamor and in reaching out to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable. All of you here have made invaluable contributions to covering the impact of malnutrition over the last few years.”

He added: The first Save the Children’s Media Awards is not just an affirmation of the media’s noble work but it is a challenge and reminder for everyone that we need to do a lot more.  By ensuring that the issue of hunger and child malnutrition is at the heart of national discourse in the upcoming elections, we can save more lives and indeed change children’s futures. “
