CCP at 40 – Life Begins Anew

Far from having a midlife crisis, the Cultural Center of the Philippines at 40 is alive and well, and beginning life anew,  marking its four decades with a year-long series of celebration.  In 2009, it will rain art and culture, music and dance, theater and cinema, as well as multi-media showcases, honoring the best and brightest of the CCP’s illustrious history.

The performances and events of the 40th anniversary will feature Filipino artist excellence; brave and visionary, new and original Filipino creations, and the developing cultural empowerment of the country’s regional arts.   During the launch last January 14, the press were treated to performances by soprano Camille Lopez-Molina and danseur Rhosam Prudenciano, Jr. to preview the highlights of the festival.  The launch of the CCP 40th anniversary logo was a surprise highlight of the event.

President and Artistic Director Nestor O. Jardin underscored the major achievements of the CCP that include full support of budding and veteran Filipino artists and the creation and preservation of a large body of original Filipino works that help define us as a people and as a nation.  Moreover, the CCP continues to democratize arts through its outreach programs, thereby distinguishing itself as the leading institution in using the power of arts for social transformation.

CCP’s 40th anniversary celebration kicks-off on February 1 during the annual CCP Pasinaya Open House Festival.  This will coincide with the National Arts Month in February, continuing through March with the theme: Excellence of Filipino Artists.
