Cartoon Network launches first HD kid’s channel in Asia

THE PHILIPPINES, JANUARY 19, 2012: Starting January 20, Cartoon Network’s Filipino audience can experience TV viewing in high definition glory, a first in the South East Asian region.

Cartoon Network marked their first HD Channel in the Philippines available through SKY Cable. The HD channel will feature shows such as The Amazing World of Gumball, Ben 10, The Looney Tunes Show, and Dragon Ball Z Kai.

"I think the kids are becoming much more sophisticated in their viewing habits. I think brand has to be multi-platform and it has to be interesting," says Lucien Harrington, vice president for Branding and Communications, Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, Inc. which is the company handling Cartoon Network.

According to Harrington, the channel’s popularity among Filpino kids is one of the reasons why they decided to launch the HD channel in the Philippines.

Aside from the scheduled shows, Cartoon Network aims to add to the line up more shows including old favorites such as Scooby Doo, according to James Moore, senior public relations manager of Turner.

"Cartoon Network is a big part of many Filipino," said Claudia G. Suarez, Program Packaging & Merchandising head for Skycable Corporation. "Its brand of humor and fun can only get better with the addition of its new ground-breaking HD channel," added Suarez in a press statement.

The HD channel is viewable through SKY Cable’s P1,199 per month package and will be shown on channel 178. Claudia G. Suarez, programming head of Sky Cable Corp., said the subscription would come in a separate cable box.

One of the changes the channel has executed is its recent re-branding in Ocotber 2011. "I think what was missing from our old branding was the element of "fun." Everything that we do has to have the element of fun," says James Moore, senior public relations manager of Turner Broadcasting. Cartoon Network re-branded with a new logo and tag line "It’s a fun thing!"
