‘Integrity’ by Jethro Jocson goes live at Ysobel Art Gallery

MANILA – In the solo exhibition ‘Integrity,’ Jethro Jocson thoughtfully consolidates and characterizes his creative practice over the years. In his artwork he talks about his process, the pressing need to always go back to the rigors of creative discipline and thus, sincerity and integrity of an artist.

The show explores the artist’s pursuit in conveying through his art—meaning and authenticity gleaned from his process and proceedings. Art is not simply a –fashioning of colors and forms but the result of certain strings of initiated actions executed in a span of time. As he frames it, his art is a melding of time and methods set in motion guided not only by intuition but also by structure and technical grammar.

Jocson’s art emphasizes concretion of an artist’s questions and conflicts that he must address aesthetically. It’s like a speculative puzzle but he imagines what he wants to see at the end after a procedure.  As for his penchant for structure, to him it’s a dialogue with potentials and possibilities and the assertion of something else pragmatized in a visual language.

Through this show, he reiterates how image-making is a process of conception of ideas, thought and feelings that ends in any image whether drawing or painted surfaces or plastic forms. It’s also his acute response to ongoing narratives of artistic practices that continue to distance and depart from process and internal creative struggles and renegotiations.

‘Integrity’ opened last January 17, 2015 and will run until January 28, 2015.
