McCann Worldgroup PH wins Kidlat Agency of the Year; Joe Dy, Raul Castro in Creative Guild Hall of Fame

SUBIC – When two of your top honchos are elevated into the Hall of Fame in the same night, your agency better be something special. That’s exactly what McCann Worldgroup Philippines proved to be on this evening as they won several awards at the 2018 Kidlat Awards. On top of those, McCann Worldgroup Philippines Executive Creative Director Joe Dy and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Raul Castro were each entered into the Creative Guild of the Philippines Hall of Fame for their respective career accomplishments.

As the culminating activity of Ad Summit Pilipinas 2018, the Kidlat Awards honored the best in Philippine advertising and communications. ‘Maggi Magic Sarap Series: Dim Dads’ by McCann Worldgroup Philippines for Nestle Philippines, Inc. was the most awarded campaign by far. It won the KBP Ad of the Year as well as the Kidlat Grand Prix given to the unanimously chosen top ad by the Kidlat jury.

‘Maggi Magic Sarap Series: Dim Dads: Rufus’ won Craft Gold in Audio – Best Copywriting for McCann Worldgroup Philippines as well as Craft Gold in Audio – Best Music/Sound Design for LoudBox Studios, Inc. ‘Maggi Magic Sarap Series: Dim Dads: Ned’ also won Craft Gold in Audio – Best Copywriting for McCann. For its part, ‘Maggi Magic Sarap Series: Dim Dads: Pedro’ won Craft Silver in Audio – Best Copywriting.

In the main Kidlat category for Audio (Radio and Digital), ‘Maggi Magic Sarap Series: Dim Dads: Pedro, Rufus, and Ned’ won Gold for McCann. ‘Maggi Magic Sarap Series: Dim Dads’ also won Kidlat Gold. ‘Fully Booked Lives: Nicky’ and ‘Fully Booked Live: Hanna and Nicky’ also won Gold for McCann Worldgroup Philippines in Audio (Radio and Digital).

J. Walter Thompson Philippines earned their own Gold, this time for Film, for their ‘Manulife: Stand-Up’ ad for Manulife Insurance.

TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno earned not just a Gold for Film for ‘Love Thy Neighbor’ for the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas, it also won the Kidlat Sinag award. In Print and Publication, TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno won Gold for ‘Bantay Bata: Children Stories’ on behalf of ABS-CBN Foundation. The same agency won Gold in Branded CSR for ‘Life Under the Bridge’ for client Johnson & Johnson Philippines, Inc.

The only other Gold handed out was for Outdoor and brought home by Dentsu JaymeSyfu for ;Dead Whale’ and client Greenpeace Philippines.

With close to two decades of experience in the advertising industry, self-confessed geek Joe Dy was given a colorful tribute befitting his comic-loving roots. Wild word balloons and colorful superhero costumes appeared on the screens as Dy’s former bosses and colleagues sang his praises while the theme song to classic cartoon Challenge of the Superfriends blared.

When it was his turn to be inducted, several of Raul Castro’s so-called “Raulisms” about the ad industry were flashed for all to see. As some of his successful campaigns were also shown, former clients and colleagues also paid tribute to Castro for his many triumphs.

Presented by the Creative Guild of the Philippines, the Lifetime Achievement Award was also presented posthumously to trailblazing photographer and Adphoto founder John K. Chua. For the duration of Ad Summit Pilipinas 2018, a smattering of Chua’s work was on display in the main hall of the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center.

Other notable Kidlat honorees were Film Pabrika as Production House of the Year and Nestle Philippines as Advertiser of the Year. Ad Summit Pilipinas 2018 Chairman and McCann Worldgroup Philippines Chief Operating Officer Bong Pacia also formally turned over the chairmanship for the 2020 edition to Ace Saatchi & Saatchi President and COO Mio Chongson, looking forward to an even more successful Ad Summit in two years’ time.
