Globe brings ‘Sagot Ka ni Kap’ in Taal for tourist protection

MANILA – JULY 10, 2013 – Globe Telecom launched a community vigilance program ‘Sagot Ka ni Kap’ in nearby barangays of Taal Volcano Protected Landscape. The main objective of this Globe Bridging Communities program is to provide local leaders with proper means for crime prevention within their respective vicinities.

‘Sagot Ka ni Kap’ (SKK) strengthens the partnership of Globe Telecom and PUSOD, Inc. in their cause to protect local and foreign tourists visiting Taal Volcano. PUSOD Inc. is a non-government organization whose purpose is protecting and enhancing the Philippine ecosystems and showing their importance to the community.

Initially, SKK is present at Brgy. Kinalaglagan, Mataasnakahoy, the host community of the Taal Lake Conservation Center which is a jump-off point for several half-day adventures.  Another SKK beneficiary is Brgy. Calauit, Balete, the lone barangay based on the volcano island.

“We want to make sure that the communities surrounding Taal Lake are safe, peaceful and orderly so that we can persuade more people to visit Taal especially at this time when  Globe and PUSOD are promoting and developing tourism products that showcase recreational activities such as hiking, biking, and kayaking,” said Fernando Esguerra, OIC of Globe Corporate Social Responsibility

In the course of SKK program, community watch volunteers are provided with handheld radios, mobile phones and communication hotline which will make quick emergency response possible. Included in this program are capacity-building workshops on the Barangay Rule of Law, conflict resolution and crisis management. Rain gears and first aid kits will also be provided.

Moreover, SKK will also assist in making sure the cleanliness of the community. Reports on people throwing aimlessly in restricted areas are very much encouraged.

At present, Globe SKK programs run in other cities and municipalities in Batangas including Namunga (Rosario), Tangob (Padre Garcia), Dumantay (Batangas City), Quisumbing (Calaca), Ermita (Balayan), Kalpito (Lian), and Balagbag (Cuenca).

Globe, in partnership with PUSOD Inc., conducts tourism and barangay governance activities in Taal Volcano protected landscape to save Taal Lake from water pollution. Batangas is one of Globe’s Communities of Practice, Globe Bridging Communities strategy for social involvement through active partnership with community-based non-government organizations, barangay leaders, youth, and the beneficiaries themselves.
