Looking at the Cannes entries list over the weekend, we found a surprising result: relatively low-profile Ace-Saatchi outspent BBDO, mainly due to entries for Vespa and North Face (Cocoon). Third on the list was DM9, with TBWA\SantiagoMangadaPuno coming in fourth and DDB Philippines fifth. (Melvin & co. are also credited on ‘Absolut Hugs,’ entered by TBWA New York.)
The majority of entries were in Outdoor (a category which includes Posters and Large-Format point-of-sale), at 71. But even the brand-new PR Lions received three entries, including one from PR agency GeiserMaclang. McCann Worldgroup’s ‘I Am Ninoy’ is the country’s sole Titanium/Integrated entry.
Oddly missing was ‘Riles’, TBWA/SMP’s ADFEST-shortlisted TVC for the UP Alumni Association. Apparently the agency chose not to enter it, despite enthusiasm from jurors who gave it a Diwa Gold at Kidlat. TBWA’s Clio- and ADFEST-winning ‘Recycle Bag’, however, was entered in four categories.
