Ci-8 mines online data to help Philippine netizens stay on top of electoral buzz

MANILA, MAY 6, 2013 – With the Philippine midterm elections fast approaching, many are looking to keep tabs on online chatter with the aim of attempting to determine which candidates might win the seats they are contesting.

Social media research specialist Ci-8 has been making use of Radian6 to keep track of online mentions regarding all 33 candidates for the 12 senatorial seats since the list was first made public. Data sources for their analysis include mainstream online news and social media, both accounts maintained by candidates themselves and those of the general public as well.

On a daily basis, Ci-8 manually analyzes these online mentions and interprets the data in graphical form. For instance, this graph displays volumes for each of the top 12 candidates as of April 30, 2013. Clicking the candidate names enables viewers to show or hide lines as they wish or require.
