Uniqlo Manila to open global flagship store on October 5, launches call for nominations campaign

MANILA – Japanese global apparel retailer, UNIQLO, has announced it will open its UNIQLO MANILA Global Flagship Store on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018. As part of a nationwide campaign before the launch, UNIQLO is inviting all Filipinos to nominate their future heroes of Manila, from June 18.

Through its Our Future Is Here campaign, UNIQLO will identify and collaborate with some of Manila’s most promising people from a range of industries and backgrounds. These future heroes of Manila will work with UNIQLO to shine a light on the city’s flourishing, forward-thinking culture for people around the world.

Speaking of the campaign, John Jay, President for Global Creative at UNIQLO’s parent company, Fast Retailing, said, “The great success of UNIQLO in the Philippines is thanks to our customers here. The Our Future Is Here campaign is an exciting opportunity to deepen our connection with the city of Manila through our Global Flagship Store, to engage communities and celebrate the innovators who will shape its future.”

As part of Our Future is Here, UNIQLO has engaged local illustrators Dan Matutina, Craig Halili, Joanna Malinis and Raxenne Maniquiz of Plus63 Design Co.—a homegrown creative agency—to turn temporary walls currently around the store site into an urban canvas capturing the cultural zeitgeist of the country. The team worked with UNIQLO to create a series of murals depicting scenes of everyday life in the Philippines, taking inspiration from its vibrancy and diversity to tell the story of each Filipino’s journey.

On the special project, Matutina said, “Manila is bursting with exciting ideas and discoveries. People flowing in and out of the city carry with them distinct concepts of home from their various origins around the world. The UNIQLO MANILA Global Flagship Store captures the city’s potential and the dynamic exchanges that go beyond city limits and boundaries.”

A Call for Future Heroes

To kick off the campaign, UNIQLO invites customers to nominate inspiring Filipinos who are driving Manila’s future in the area of sports, music, film, food and beverage, culture, design, advocacy and beyond. To make a nomination, customers simply upload a photo of their nominee/s on Instagram with the hashtags #UniqloManila and #OurFutureIsHere and tag @uniqlophofficial. They should also include a caption briefly describing why their nominee is a future hero. Selected nominees will be offered a chance to be styled, photographed and featured in a UNIQLO MANILA advertising campaign alongside UNIQLO ambassadors. Nominations will run from June 18 to July 15, 2018. Nominees will also be featured in the campaign website at uniqlo.com/manila.

The UNIQLO MANILA Global Flagship Store will be the largest UNIQLO store in the country and in the Southeast Asia region. Set over a sales floor area of 4,100 square meters, the new store will offer local and international customers a huge shopping area and a world-class immersive shopping experience featuring large visual displays and state-of-the-art design concepts. As with other Global Flagship Stores, the store will also showcase the full lineup of LifeWear for men, women, kids and babies.
