Who will win the paper crown?

The world of print media as we know it will soon come to a new dawn as the toughest print show on Earth gears up to crown the next royals of print.

The Tinta Awards celebrates the country’s most creative in the print industry. Awarding ceremony will be on July 10, 2014 at the Buddha Bar where deserving campaigns will take home coveted gold, silver, and bronze trophies. The best of the best will also win the Tinta Print Ad of the Year, Tinta Agency of the Year, and Tinta Advertiser of the Year.

Now on its 4th run, Tinta Awards has proven time and time again that they are a force in the field of creative print. As the first Philippine press award-giving body geared toward recognizing excellence in print advertising, its aim is to encourage creativity in print and to keep the spirit of print media alive in an increasingly digital terrain.

“We have received a record number of entries in the Tinta Awards. Over 200 entries were received from 23 entrant companies—a healthy indication that the print medium remains robust and a relevant platform for advertising creativity. This year, we have a prestigious panel of 13 jury members from the advertising, media, and digital agencies headed by Raoul Panes, the highly awarded Chief Creative Officer of Leo Burnett Philippines,” said Tinta Awards Chairman Angel Guerrero.

“Print advertising is becoming more challenging given today’s diverse media options and the consumer’s ever-shortening attention span. How to make the eye linger on a page a little longer—here’s where creativity comes to the fore. Tinta allows us to reward those able to do it best,” said Panes.

Rounding up the jury are TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno Creative Director and Head of Design Manuel Villafania, BBDO Guerrero Executive Creative Director Dale Lopez, Ace Saatchi & Saatchi Chief Digital Officer Denise Tee, DM9JaymeSyfu / Digit Executive Creative Director Eugene Demata, McCann Worldgroup Deputy Executive and Creative Director Noel Bermejo, Carat Philippines Chief Executive Officer Boy Pangilinan, Omnicom Media Group Philippines President & CEO Nicanor Gabunada, Jr., Havas Media Ortega Chairman and CEO Jos Ortega, Starcom Mediavest Managing Director Joanna Mojica, MEC Managing Director Malu Vasallo, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation Chief Digital Officer Donald Patrick Lim, and Smart Communications, Inc. Group Head for Media Convergence Leah Besa-Jimenez.

“We have a very good jury—all experts in their fields. I’m confident we will all learn from each other. I have no hard and fast rules about running a jury. We all just have to agree on how high we’ll set the creative bar. Both idea and execution will have to be superior in the winning works. The best ones tend to stand out at the outset. They catch your attention, as they should on a newspaper or magazine,” Panes added.

Today marks the second day of judging for the Tinta Awards.

“The works entered into the competition are predominantly print ads and print campaigns but each year we see an increase in number of entries using special executions, like pop-ups and die-cuts; and integrated work that ties the print ads with events and digital platforms. Brands are extending the engagement of the print ads by using QR codes and executions with augmented reality. Print has become a very exciting medium,” Guerrero said.

The Tinta Awards is spearheaded by the United Print Media Group, a progressive organization of print media and publication companies in the Philippines. It aims to represent the interest and position of the print media industry in the Philippines with regards to business, social, and operational concerns. UPMG currently has 33 active member-publications with over 120 titles.

The 4th Tinta Awards is made possible by PAG-IBIG, PAGCOR, Globe, The SM Store, and Landbank in partnership with Yehey! Digital Group, PWC, Print Town, and Air21.
