Clio Awards grants first Global Impact Award to Sesame Workshop

The Clio Awards will grant its inaugural “Global Impact Award” to Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organization behind the children’s show “Sesame Street”.

The “Global Impact Award” is given to organisations which produce ideas and work that start positive dialogue and real change.

According to a statement by the Clio Awards, the first-ever award will be given to Sesame Workshop and Sesame Workshop EVP for Global Impact and Philantrophy, Sherrie Westin for the organisation’s “efforts in using children’s educational programming as a vehicle for social change” and for having “proven the transformational power of storytelling with content tailored to tackle issues around the globe.”

The Clio Awards further cited Sesame Workshop’s efforts in educating and nurturing refugee children in conflict areas such as Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq. In Afghanistan, Sesame Workshop teaches both children and parents the importance of schooling for young girls. “Using the power of media and Muppets, Sesame Workshop has inspired people around the world to recognise our shared humanity and do what they can to help children in need, especially the most vulnerable,” the Clio Awards statement said.

The award will be presented to Sesame Workshop during the 58th Clio Awards on September 27, 2017 at the Lincoln Center, New York City.
