National Gallery Singapore presents Southeast Asia’s largest French Impressionism exhibition

SINGAPORE – National Gallery Singapore is set to unveil the region’s most extensive presentation of French Impressionism with Into the Modern: Impressionism from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Opening on 14 November 2025, the landmark exhibition marks the Southeast Asian debut of more than 100 artworks by some of the most celebrated artists of the 19th century.

Organised in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston which is renowned for housing one of the world’s most significant collections of Impressionist art, the exhibition offers an unprecedented opportunity for audiences to encounter masterpieces by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Paul Cézanne, Berthe Morisot, and Camille Pissarro, among others.

A major highlight of Into the Modern is the presentation of 17 exceptional works by Monet, including iconic depictions of grainstacks, poppy fields, and his famed Japanese bridge at Giverny. Together, these works illustrate the artist’s extraordinary command of light, colour, and atmosphere, underscoring the timeless influence of his vision.

Structured across seven thematic sections, the exhibition casts a contemporary lens on Impressionism by exploring its dialogue with modernity through themes of urban life, gender, land, and the environment. Complemented by immersive scenography, archival materials, and even the only known moving image of Monet, the experience bridges past and present, reaffirming Impressionism’s resonance with today’s audiences.

Running until 1 March 2026, Into the Modern will be staged at the Singtel Special Exhibition Galleries of National Gallery Singapore. Beyond the exhibition, visitors can enjoy exclusive merchandise from the MFA Boston and participate in interactive learning zones designed to engage both art enthusiasts and curious newcomers alike.

As the Gallery celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, this exhibition underscores its commitment to redefining the region’s place in global art history, offering Southeast Asia an unparalleled chance to experience one of modern art’s most beloved movements.
