THE PHILIPPINES, SEPTEMBER 17, 2012 – PLDT magnate Manuel V. Pangilinan, more known as MVP, wasn’t the first to consider a takeover of top broadcasting network GMA-7 – Ayala Group also tried to make a move some years ago.
The network’s chief executive officer Felipe Gozon confirmed this but kept mum about the additional details.
MVP is still in the process of closing an estimated Php 50-55 billion deal. If the deal pushes through, a merger of two of the biggest networks, the other one being TV5, which Pangilinan bought in 2010, will create an interesting shift in Philippine TV.
As of the time of this writing, Ayala Group hasn’t released a statement yet.
