Raw School: What do William Hung and Windows have in common?

That One Thing.

As Raw School students gathered at the BBDO Guerrero office for the last class of 2011, Tin Sanchez, co-ECD of the multi-awarded agency, asked: What is that One Thing?

“It pushes you, it propels you, it makes you go places,” she said. “It can protect you, it can make you bounce back. It enhances your talents and skills, and it can make up for the lack of them.”

“It could move people. It can change your life. It can make you rich!” continued Sanchez to appreciative murmurs. “It can make you forever young. It makes your life fulfilling.”

Sanchez interspersed her presentation with “commercial breaks” that all illustrated “The One Thing” that she said has kept her going in the industry – and what has made William Hung famous even without too much talent and Windows still popular (and interesting) even with the tight competition with Apple.

“That One Thing is passion,” Sanchez revealed. “Passion is fire in the belly. Passion is a lot of energy in one person.” We get energy from different things and through different ways, she said. But no matter where our energy comes from, the important thing is that it fuels our drive to do the things we love to do.

And while people might have different passions, such as music or art or advertising, Sanchez says that as long as you are passionate about something, “It feels like you’re born to do it.” She also advised to spoil whatever your passion may be. If you’re passionate about photography, for example, then invest on a good camera and other equipment.

Sanchez closed her short-but-sweet presentation saying, “If you’ve found it, keep feeding it. And if you haven’t just keep going.” Hopefully, she said, our own individual passions will help us live a life without regrets.
